Dorset History Centre says in one of their blog postings "Tithes were a tax of one tenth of all agricultural produce given in kind to support the Church. In 1836, payment in kind was changed to payment in money by the Tithe Commutation Act. The tithe maps were commissioned to survey each parish and establish who owned and who occupied the land and so 'apportion' the payment of the taxes accordingly."
Links have been added to this scan of the Netherbury Tithe Map allowing you to click on a plot number and see the appropriate entry in the apportionment
To see the plots filtered by Owner, Occupier, type of Cultivation or Description (field names, etc.) go to the Tithe Apportionment Analysis page and choose what you want to view there. You will be brought back to this page with your choice highlighted on the map.
The Netherbury Tithe Map is held by Dorset History Centre who supplied the scanned version displayed here.
