From the Western Gazette, 19th September 1919

At the Bull Hotel Messrs. Duke & Son, Dorchester, ordered by public auction several valuable properties in the locality. The first part of the sale was property offered by direction of Lieut.-Colonel T. A. Colfox, with the following result:-— Wooth Grange, consisting of the old-world residence and 218 acres of land, with farm buildings, five workmen's cottages, &c., in the tenancy of Mr. W. Manfield. This was finally withdrawn at the vendor's bid of £11,500. The next lot was a small holding of 28 acres, with small farmhouse, known Ash, in the occupation of Mr. Geo. Marsh, which was also withdrawn at £1,550. Pineapple Farm, in the tenancy of Mr. W. A. Gibbs, and consisting of 96 acres, together with a field of arable land, was withdrawn £4,700. Morgan s Land, comprising 23 acres of pasture and arable land adjoining was bought by Mr. Jeffs, for the Dorset County Council, for £1,250. Messrs. Nantes & Maunsell Bridport, were the solicitors concerned. Next came property belonging the Governors of the Beaminster and Netherbury Grammar School the solicitors being Messrs. Leigh & Son, Beaminster. Broadenham, or Church Ground Farm, Netherbury, of 54 acres, let to Mr. F. C. Cooke, was purchased by the tenant for £1,580. A row of five stone and reed cottages, formerly the Parish Poor House, Netherbury, facing the road to Waytown, together with an acre of pasture land, found a purchaser in Mr. W. H. Wallbridge at £400. A small holding of 5a. 2r. 10p., known as Netherbury Allotments gardens, was bought by Mr. J. Dunn for £180. Strongate Farm, Salwayash, the property of Capt. J. A. C. Tucker, was next offered, Mr. J. J. Roper being the solicitor. The dairy farm, consisting of 18¾ acres, and let to Mr. John Hansford was brought by Mr. E. A. Huxter, of Marshwood, for £1,500. The last lot, a small piece of garden ground at Symondsbury, 1r. 26p., was withdrawn at £10.
